Getting Published

  • You’ve written something and had rejections
  • You want to write something and have tried to get it down on paper, but it hasn’t worked out
  •  You have an idea, but don’t know where to begin.

Man and typewriterThe publishing market today is a very tough one. Although some 250,000 books are published each year, very few receive much, if any, attention. The big sellers are often celebrity driven or TV spin-offs. But publishing thrives on new blood and new ideas, different ways of telling a story. If your story is compelling enough and your voice is authentic, you stand a very good chance of competing in this exclusive, sales-driven market.

For example, I worked with a former soldier, ‘A’, whose childhood was very troubled, taking him across the world in the ‘care’ of very uncaring relatives. But in the end he won through and became the person he always wanted to be. He knew he had trouble writing down his memories. I became involved via a literary agent who passed the story outline to me. A and I met, and got on well. Together, we created a submission we felt was compelling, honest and engaging. We had rejections, but we didn’t give up. When one of the world’s biggest publishing houses finally bought it, we were vindicated. This book has attracted attention across the world, and is continuing to sell well. If it happened for A, it can happen for you.

Mainstream Publishers

Old books and wooden ladder, isolated on whiteThe big publishing houses and their smaller imprints still hold sway over the international publishing industry. Standards are very high, and publishers are always looking to reject. Employing a professional ghostwriter to co-author your story lessens the chances of rejection considerably, especially if the ghostwriter has, like me, a strong track record within the industry. Publishers also work closely with established, credible literary agents to locate talent and broker book deals.

I am the principal ghostwriter for The Viney Agency, ( one of the UK’s most successful and well-respected literary agencies. I have also worked with other extremely successful UK literary agents and a variety of big publishers to get books placed in the market (see Testimonials).

Web / Self-publishers

The internet has expanded the publishing market beyond belief. With a few clicks, you can publish your book on Kindle and hope it gets picked up. This is the rags-to-riches dream that all those publishing electronically hope for and in a few cases – ’50 Shades of Grey’ being the famous example – the dream has come true.

Tablet PC Computer and bookSelf-publishers offer much more value for money than they ever did. Their books are often handsomely designed and well laid out, offering credibility in a highly competitive market.

You might ask – why bother employing a ghostwriter in these circumstances? Well, the quality of the published word still counts and if you’re able to afford it paying a ghost to make your book read as well as any others on the shelves is a very worthwhile idea. In this digital age, your book is highly likely to outlast you – so why not make it as good as you possibly can, and hire me?!
